Why is Ectoin trending?

Here at Ultrasun, we have always used carefully selected clinically proven, premium skincare actives and it seems that one in particular, is receiving some very well-deserved recognition. Ectoin is rapidly gaining a reputation as the new “must-have” active by experts in the world of skincare. With a remarkable multitude of benefits delivered at an exceptional level, it's not hard to see why.

What are the benefits of Ectoin?

If you’ve found yourself frustrated with the dilemma of choosing between beautiful skincare that will restore and hydrate your skin and high-level, broad-spectrum SPF, we have the solution. Most Ultrasun Face formulas contain   Ectoin which delivers:

  • Deep Hydration: Ectoin significantly increases and balances hydration levels as the molecule accumulates water, increasing hydration levels up to 7 days after application to leave skin smooth and plump*
  • Protection Against Environmental Stress: Modern life exposes our skin to many environmental stressors, from pollution to digital screens. Ectoin forms a protective barrier that shields the skin from these external aggressors, helping to maintain its natural balance and resilience.
  • Anti-Ageing Properties: Exposure to environmental stressors, such as UV rays and pollution, can accelerate the ageing process. Ectoin's antioxidative properties help neutralise free radicals, reducing the risk of premature ageing. Regular use of Ectoin-infused skincare products can contribute to a smoother, more youthful complexion.
  • Calming and Soothing: For those with sensitive or irritated skin, Ectoin acts as a calming agent. It helps alleviate redness, inflammation, and discomfort for balanced and comfortable skin.
  • Compatibility with Other Ingredients: Ectoin is known for its compatibility with a wide range of skincare ingredients such as retinols, peptides, hyaluronic acid and ceramides to enhance overall efficacy and skin health.

What is special about Ectoin?

Ectoin is an amino acid derived from a microorganism that thrives in extreme and harsh environments where it protects living cells. This type of protective molecule is known as an extremolyte and more often referred to as the natural “anti-stress molecule”.

Discovered in the 1980’s this rare enzyme surrounds itself, other proteins and cell membranes in a coat of stabilising water to protect from allergens and pollutants, reducing irritation.  It prevents the release of stress mediators which trigger inflammation and the mutation of cells caused by UV rays.  This helps to calm redness, irritation and soothe sensitivity.

Including Ectoin in your skincare regime significantly increases and balances hydration levels as the molecule accumulates water, increasing hydration levels up to 7 days after application* and defending against fluctuating environmental stresses whilst improving elasticity to leave it smooth and plump.
